Countries and regions accepting CUP card (by the end of March, 2008)

By the end of March, 2008, CUP cards is accepted in key cities and important merchants in 26 countries and regions, in response to Chinese people’s needs for CUP card usage. The countries and regions include: Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, the United States, France, Spain, Luxemburg, Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Turkey, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, Austria, and Egypt.

China Unionpay (CUP) also cooperates with Japan’s Sumitomo Mitsui Cards Company and South Korea’s BC Cards Company to issue local currency credit cards of CUP standard. CUP will not only become a bankcard organization serving China, but also an international one serving a growing number of countries and regions.

Development of Hong Kong, Macau and overseas bankcard markets

In response to the economic development trend and Chinese people’s steps of “Going Global”, CUP seized the chance of the signing of CEPA and started from Hong Kong market to push the globalization of CUP card into a large scale development track. Currently, there are altogether 125 thousand acceptance merchants, 174 thousand POS terminals and 366 thousand ATMs in Hong Kong, Macau and overseas, and the total realized transaction has topped RMB 84.9 billion. CUP card has become a primary choice for domestic cardholders in Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and so on.
