2008-05-21

So far the number of Australian merchant that accept CUP cards surpasses 20 thousand, which means more convenience for Chinese visitors in Australia,

CUP started its cooperation with the mainstream financial institutions in Australia on CUP card acceptance in November, 2006. The over 20 thousand merchants that accept CUP cards are spread over the places where Chinese travelers frequently visited in Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, and so on. The operations of those merchants cover DFS, restaurants, hotels, and car rentals, which preferably satisfies Chinese visitors’ demands of using cards in Australia. In addition, the number of ATMs available to CUP cards in Australia has reached over 7400, which belong to NAB and Cashcard respectively and serve for Chinese people’s convenience with Chinese operator interface installed.

Direct transference between Australia Dollar and RMB is materialized by using CUP cards in Australia and the repayment can be done with RMB in China so that the risk of exchange rate caused by multiple currency transference will be avoided and 1-2% of currency conversion fees will be saved for travelers’ benefit.

Cai Jianbo, Managing Vice President of CUP, expressed that CUP unremittingly pursues to realize the goal of “where there is Chinese people, there is CUP card service” in developing its overseas network. CUP will further the development of CUP card acceptance network in Australia on the present basis to serve Chinese people’s needs of using cards for doing business, traveling, and studying abroad.

Ieamma Morris, Governor of New South Wales of Australia, who is now visiting in China, says that the broadening acceptance of CUP cards in Australia doesn’t only bring dramatic payment convenience for Chinese visitors, but also make initiative contribution to the prosperity of Australian economy.

CUP has signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the Bureau of Tourism of New South Wales at November, 2007 in order to make Chinese people’s visit to Australia more convenient and pleasant. The two parties, together with the ICBC, have launched the event of “free traveling, fabulous Sydney”, which will provide the holders of ICBC’s Peony Card whose progressive total of consumption by using card in Australia is the highest in that month fantastic benefits like round-trip ticket, star-level hotel quarter, and Sydney visit. The event is from March to June in 2008.
