On June 10, 2009, CUP President Xu Luode met the delegation led by Sir William Ehrman, British Ambassador to China, and his party at the CUP Head Office.

CUP President Xu Luode warmly welcomed Sir William Ehrman, and expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador and relevant parties for their support in the active promotion of CUP card business in Britain. President Xu also introduced the latest development of the Chinese bankcard industry and China UnionPay, especially the breakthrough of CUP global business. President Xu said that China UnionPay attaches great importance to the business expansion of CUP card in Britain. As China and Britain maintain sound economic and trade relations, Cup card has to satisfy the increasing demands of Chinese in their travel, business and study in Britain. Under the cooperation with partners, China UnionPay plans to launch the LINK ATM network business to accept CUP cards in Britain in Q3 this year, which will cover over 99% ATMs across Britain. Additionally, the merchant acceptance business will also be launched by the end of the year. President Xu added that CUP’s representative office n Britain is also in preparation for its debut within the year.

In this special visit to China UnionPay, Sir William Ehrman introduced the economic status and social life in Britain and appreciated the progress achieved by China UnionPay, particularly in its globalization. In addition, he was also glad to see China UnionPay’s efforts in opening the CUP card acceptance business recently and establishing its representative office in Britain. He said that the British Government is willing to support the business development of China UnionPay in Britain in all aspects.
