On June 18, China Unionpay held a grand ceremony in Beijing together with commercial banks including Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, Bank of China, China Construction Bank, China CITIC Bank, China Minsheng Bank, China Merchants Bank, Societe Generale, Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, Bank of Shanghai, Bank of Beijing, Bank of East Asia, Dongguan City Commercial Bank, Fujian Rural Credit Union and Baoshang Bank. The “CUP Standard Theme Credit Card for the 60th Anniversary of the PRC” was issued jointly.
"CUP Standard Theme Credit Card for the 60th Anniversary of the PRC” is the first credit card in the theme of national celebration jointly issued by China Unionpay and various domestic commercial banks. It is not only the special offering for the 60th birthday of the PRC by the Chinese bankcard industry, but also fully demonstrating the development achievements of China’s bankcard industry.
Ever since the issuance of China’s first bankcard in 1985, the bankcard industry in China has undergone years of development, starting from scratch and growing from small to large. It witnesses a great course of the reform and opening-up, records historical span of people’s life and becomes the epitome for economic development and social advancement of the new China. With joint efforts by various parties in bankcard industry including China Unionpay and commercial banks, China’s bankcard industry has formed a new system for industrial development: “joint formulation of rules, joint promotion of business, joint expansion of market and joint standardization of order”. The bankcard industry entered into the new stage of comprehensive and rapid development, and has achieved significant development results, especially in the aspects of promoting netted utilization, creating independent brand and boosting internationalization. At present, China has issued 1.8 billion band cards in total, with the largest number of cards around the world; a standardized bankcard acceptance network covering cities and extending to rural area has been formed within the territory of China; the proportion of bankcard consumption amount in total volume of retail sales of social consumables has rapidly climbed to nearly 25%; meanwhile, CUP acceptance network has also been extended to 61 countries and regions overseas, and CUP card has been becoming an important bankcard brand worldwide.
The launch of “CUP Standard Theme Credit Card for the 60th Anniversary of the PRC” this time is exclusive and innovative in terms of design concept, product function, shape and pattern. The product design integrates the intangible “patriotic” emotions ingeniously into the tangible bankcard, enabling the cardholders to express their enthusiastic celebration and sincere blessing for the 60th birthday of the PRC in the daily life. For product function, the card features fundamental functions including consumption overdraft, revolving credit and cash advance, and provides enhancement services including merchant promotion and bonus points. In the aspect of shape and pattern, the card takes the theme of celebrating the 60th anniversary of the PRC, presenting several surface designs.
